And struck out to begin a brand new group. They recruited guitarist Ace Frehley and drummer Peter Criss, and by early 1973 had depended on the name “KISS.”

Kiss have typically been categorized under the genres of tough stone, shock stone, and dense metallic. Most of their’70s albums, particularly the first six released between 1974, 1977 and 1982’s Creatures of the Night and 1984’s Animalize, featured a hard rock or conventional heavy metal design. 1980’s Unmasked featured a more disco/pop stone sound and 1979’s Dynasty. 1981’s Music from”The Elder” found the band dabbling in advanced rock. Starting in 1983 with Lick It Up and the removal of the trademark make-up, the group began integrating components of glam metallic into their audio and visual image. In the early 1990s, their sound grew thicker and left the glam metal noise. In the mid-1990s, the group returned to their original sound.
